Sheikh Nizam Muhammad Yaqubi –
Sharia’ah Board Executive and Chairman
Sheikh Nizam M. Yaqubi is a prominent Islamic scholar, obtained his education in Classical Shari’ah in Bahrain and Makkah under the guidance of eminent Islamic scholars. He has a BA in Economics and Comparative Religion and MSc. in Finance from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at the University of Wales in Islamic Law. Sheikh Nizam is a member of a number of Sharia’ah Supervisory Boards, including the Dow Jones Islamic Index, Bahrain Islamic Bank and the Citi Islamic Investment Bank. He is also member of Sharia’ah board of Accounting, Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and has been a visiting lecturer at Harvard University.
Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar - Shari’ah Board Member
Dr. Mohd Daud is currently the President of International Institute of Islamic Finance (IIIF). He was the Deputy Rector (Student Affairs and Development), International Islamic University Malaysia, and was an associate professor at the Kulliyyah of Laws. He obtained degrees in Shari’ah from the University of Kuwait and Jurisprudence from the Law Faculty, University of Malaya. He received his PhD degree in Islamic Law from the University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom. He is now a member of the Shari’ah Advisory Council (SAC) at the Central Bank of Malaysia, Securities Commission of Malaysia, and in several Islamic financial institutions locals and internationals. He also serves as a member of Shari’ah Supervisory Board at the Accounting, Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) Bahrain, International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM), Bahrain, International Islamic Rating Agency, Bahrain and Dow Jones Islamic Market Indexes (DJIM), New York. He has published more than 30 articles in academic journals and presented more than 120 papers in various conferences.
Dr. Mohamed Ali Elgari - Shari’ah Board Member
Dr. Elgari received his PhD in economics from University of California (USA), and is currently serving as a Professor of Islamic economics at King Abdulaziz University (Jeddah), Saudi Arabia. He is a Shari’ah advisor to many Islamic financial institutions including HSBC Amanah, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Bahrain Islamic Bank, Dow Jones Islamic Index, National Commercial Bank, Saudi American Bank and Saudi Fransi Bank. He is an expert at the Islamic Jurisprudence Academy (OIC) in Jeddah, as well as a member of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy and the Islamic Accounting & Auditing Standards Board (AAOIFI). As a prolific writer, he has published in a number of scholarly journals and authored several books.
